The first Italian campaign for the cataloguing of extraterrestrial materials, developed within the Space It Up! project, aims to establish a unified and scientifically robust framework for the documentation, study, and public accessibility of meteorites preserved in Italian museums, universities, and research institutions.
The initiative addresses the historical fragmentation of Italy’s meteoritic heritage through the adoption of national cataloguing standards and advanced digital methodologies, including high-resolution imaging, 3D scanning, and X-ray tomography. For more information, please consult this webpage.
The campaign will be officially presented on 16 January 2026 at 3:00 PM, at the Istituto Centrale per il Catalogo e la Documentazione, Via di San Michele 18, Rome.
