Space It Up! Young Minds Summer Forum

2-4 September 2026 | Alba, Italy

The Space It Up! Young Minds Summer Forum is a three-day event designed for early-career researchers working on space-related topics, both within the Space It Up! program and beyond.

The event combines the learning experience of a summer school with the scientific exchange of a research forum, bringing together early-stage researchers to share their work, exchange perspectives across disciplines, and actively contribute to shaping what comes next for Space It Up! and the wider space ecosystem.

The programme will explore three key thematic areas:

  • Advanced Space Systems, Mission Operations & Sustainable Materials
  • Earth & Planetary Science
  • Moon-to-Mars Exploration & Human Presence in Space

By combining these domains, the Forum aims to foster interdisciplinary dialogue, connecting research that spans from core space technologies to downstream applications such as climate monitoring, agriculture, and environmental analysis.

Participants will not only present their research but also engage in collaborative discussions, working together to identify challenges, generate insights, and develop forward-looking recommendations.

What to expect

The programme is designed to foster interaction, exchange, and collaboration through a mix of formats:

  • Research Pitches
Participants will present short pitches focused on their research activities within their selected thematic area.
  • Keynote talks
Each thematic area will feature keynote contributions from leading experts from academia and industry, presenting inspiring perspectives, real-world applications, and use cases related to the topic.
  • Roundtable discussions & collaborative work
Parallel, mentor-guided sessions focused on the three thematic areas. Participants will work in groups to exchange ideas, identify challenges, and develop insights and recommendations for both Space It Up! and the wider space ecosystem.
  • Final presentations
Each group will present their outcomes and key takeaways at the end of the Forum.
  • Career orientation & networking
Dedicated moments during breaks and lunches with Space It Up! industry partners, offering a chance to connect, exchange informally, and explore career opportunities.

The Forum is open to PhD students, postdoctoral researchers, and early-career researchers from Italy and abroad working on space-related topics across disciplines, both within and beyond the Space It Up! ecosystem.
