About Me
Roberto Battiston is an Italian experimental physicist internationally recognized for his contributions to fundamental physics, astroparticle physics, and space-based particle detection. Educated at the Scuola Normale Superiore in Pisa and the University of Paris-Sud, Orsay, he has spent more than three decades leading and contributing to major international research projects exploring fundamental interactions, antimatter, dark matter, and cosmic rays.
He is Chair of the European Space Sciences Committee (ESSC) and Professor of Experimental Physics at the University of Trento. Throughout his career, he has played leading roles in major international scientific collaborations, including the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer (AMS) aboard the International Space Station, developed together with Nobel Laureate Samuel C.C. Ting. He has also contributed to major projects at CERN and other international research facilities.
From 2014 to 2018, he served as President of the Italian Space Agency (ASI), promoting the use of space technologies and scientific data as drivers of innovation, economic growth, and Italy's national Space Economy strategy. Author of more than 550 scientific publications, he is also an active science communicator, columnist, and public speaker on physics, space exploration, technology, artificial intelligence, and the Space Economy.
