Space It Up! PhD Forum

2-4 September 2026 | Alba, Italy

The Space It Up! PhD Forum is a three-day event designed for PhD students working on space-related topics, both within the Space It Up! programme and beyond.

The event combines the learning experience of a summer school with the scientific exchange of a research forum, bringing together early-stage researchers to share their work, exchange perspectives across disciplines, and actively contribute to shaping what comes next for Space It Up! and the wider space ecosystem.

The programme will explore a range of key thematic areas, including:

  • Advanced space systems and mission operations
  • Earth observation and planetary science
  • Space physics, astrophysics, and instrumentation
  • Human factors, materials, and life sciences in space

By combining these domains, the Forum aims to foster interdisciplinary dialogue, connecting research that spans from core space technologies to downstream applications such as climate monitoring, agriculture, and environmental analysis.

Participants will not only present their research but also engage in collaborative discussions, working together to identify challenges, generate insights, and develop forward-looking recommendations.

What to expect

The programme is designed to foster interaction, exchange, and collaboration through a mix of formats:

  • PhD presentations
Participants will present their ongoing research and engage in discussion with peers and experts.
  • Keynote talks
Contributions from leading experts across the space sector, offering broader perspectives and insights.
  • Roundtable discussions & collaborative work
Parallel, mentor-guided sessions focused on key thematic areas. Participants will work in groups to exchange ideas, identify challenges, and develop insights and recommendations for both Space It Up! and the wider space ecosystem.
  • Final presentations
Each group will present their outcomes and key takeaways at the end of the Forum.
  • Career orientation & networking
Dedicated moments during breaks and lunches with Space It Up! partners, offering a chance to connect, exchange informally, and explore career opportunities.

Who should attend

The Forum is open to:
